I love quotes.
At Walt Disney World, the quote included in your e-mail signature can really define you… no joke. People spend a lot of time on cutesy signature graphics and thoughtful words that will express just the right sentiment. I, for one, had seasonal signatures; my favorite was one of Stitch holding a football—my worlds collided with that one.
At ESPN, no one does that. At least nobody I correspond with. It’s all about minimalism and occasionally “trees are people too, think before you print” (I may have Disney-fied that, but you know what I mean). So, while I don’t think I can get away with dressing up my e-mails, I have been hunting for a sports-related quote that I can identify with at my core level, while keeping professionalism in the forefront. For instance, I love this quote:
“I believe the game is designed to reward the ones who hit the hardest. If you can’t take it, you shouldn’t play.” –Jack Lambert
Obviously I can’t claim that as my go-to mantra for professional success without looking like a horrible person.
SO. DRUMROLL PLEASE:
“Show class, have pride, and display character. If you do, winning takes care of itself.”
Without Googling—any idea who said that? Thoughts? (Anything aside from the fact that I obviously got tired of reading this mid-post would be welcome.)
